Technology and equipment

I have been interested to look at the diferent kinds of technology we are using.

We all have some very similar equipment, such as the beds, manikins, some Smartboards etc.

In one of our rooms, we also have video-conferencing facilities. The technology of these sometimes defeats me, but they have certainly proved useful, as they save som much driving!

Because aged care is so very hands-on and CIII level, we would rarely use it to teach that qualification. But we have video-conferenced specialist workshops to people further south. It means that a teacher can give a 2 hour workshop in 2 hours, instead of 2 hours teaching plus 6 hours driving! Which means we are basically saving almost a whole working day for better things than sitting in a car. Of course it is not the same as really "being there", but it is a useful addition.

We do video-conference our CIV Mental Health to two other centres each Wednesday night. This is working pretty well, we have done it for several years now. It means that people in smaller communities can access training without having to drive for hours and hours every night. When we do this, we use a program called Brigit which allos us to share what is on our Smartboard screen with the Smartboard screen at the other locations.

Does anyone else use something similar?
